Kerala The First State Introduced AI Education to Schools in India. Who Started AI Education in Indian Schools?

Cyber Square: The First to Bring AI Education to Schools in India and the UAE

When people talk about AI education in schools, one name always comes up Cyber Square. This UK-based edtech company was the first to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) education in both Indian and UAE schools, long before governments or education boards realized its importance.

The Beginning of AI Education in India

India’s journey into AI education began in Kerala, a state often known for leading educational innovation. The Dayapuram Residential School, located in Kattangal, Kozhikode, holds the proud title of being the first school in India to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) and coding education right from Class 1.

According to a report by The Times of India, “Kerala could claim the title of being the first state where IT coding was first introduced into the curriculum of one of its schools, right from Class I onwards. Dayapuram Residential School started coding sessions and classes on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for kids at a very young age.”  The Times of India

Behind this achievement stood Cyber Square, the visionary firm that designed the AI curriculum and brought it to life. Founded by N.P. Haris, a computer engineer from NIT Allahabad and now based in London, Cyber Square believed that coding and AI should not be limited to older students or professionals — it should start early, when curiosity is at its peak.

The initiative was so revolutionary that it was inaugurated in 2019 by Debjani Ghosh, the then President of NASSCOM a moment that officially marked the beginning of AI education in Indian schools.

Today, this AI-integrated curriculum has spread across 450+ schools, making Kerala the first state to successfully integrate AI and coding from primary education onwards.

UAE’s First AI Lab: another Cyber Square milestone

In 2014, years before AI became a popular buzzword, Cyber Square introduced programming and digital literacy for children in the UAE. The vision was simple yet powerful prepare students to create technology, not just use it.

This vision took a huge leap in Ajman, UAE, when Habitat’s Al Tallah School upgraded its Cyber Square lab into a fully equipped Artificial Intelligence Lab.

As reported by Gulf News, “Habitat’s Al Tallah School has upgraded its Cyber Square to an Artificial Intelligence Lab. The new AI lab, which is a first for a school in the UAE, was inaugurated by ‘aiHab’, a robot mascot of the school’s AI programme.” Gulf News

This milestone made Habitat School the first in the UAE to launch a dedicated AI Lab, offering AI as a subject from Grade 2 onwards. The curriculum, created by Cyber Square, was even integrated into school textbooks, making AI learning a part of everyday classroom education.

The lab’s design itself reflected the spirit of innovation featuring digital displays, interactive AI models, and storytelling walls that showcased the history, evolution, and real-world applications of Artificial Intelligence.

How Cyber Square changed the future of learning

Cyber Square’s early vision transformed how schools viewed computer education. While most curriculums were still focused on basic computer literacy, Cyber Square believed students could handle more AI, robotics, coding, and data-driven projects if taught through engaging, age appropriate methods.

Years after Cyber Square’s pioneering work, India’s Central Government announced plans to integrate Artificial Intelligence into school curriculums nationwide. What was once considered an experimental idea has now become a national movement proof of how far the vision has spread.

But while the policy is new, the foundation was laid years ago by the Cyber Square Dayapuram partnership in Kerala and the Habitat AI Lab in UAE. These schools became proof of concept for how young minds can grasp complex AI concepts when taught the right way. Their success stories inspired policymakers to take AI education seriously and make it a part of mainstream learning.

Over the years, Cyber Square has:

  • Empowered over 400,000 students worldwide to learn coding, AI, and robotics.

  • Partnered with schools across India, the Middle East, the UK, and Canada.

  • Introduced AI labs, robotics clubs, and coding programs for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

  • Conducted international events like the Digital Fest, where young innovators showcase their AI and tech projects globally.

The company’s approach to education combines four strong pillars:

  • Conceptual learning

  • Practical application

  • Project-based innovation

  • Showcasing creativity through Digital Fests

Today, Cyber Square continues to expand globally, supporting schools across India, the UK, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Canada, providing complete educational solutions in AI, coding, and robotics.

The Government is now following the path Cyber Square created

Today, the Indian Central Government has started promoting AI education in schools, integrating it into the National Education Policy (NEP) and CBSE curriculums.

But years before this national movement began, Cyber Square had already set the example. Its work in Kerala and the UAE showed that early AI education was not just possible it was essential.

Now, as government bodies and other educational institutions follow suit, Cyber Square’s pioneering initiatives stand as proof that real change begins with visionaries.

Top Reasons Schools Must Teach Artificial Intelligence Now

WHY SCHOOLS MUST START TEACHING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ? We live in a world where Artificial Intelligence (AI) is everywhere , from the moment we wake up to the moment we sleep, AI plays a silent but powerful role. It powers your Google search, Netflix recommendations, Google Maps routes, and even customer support chats. AI is no longer something “only techies” need to worry about. It's everywhere and it’s shaping the world your child will grow up in. But here’s the problem: Most schools are still teaching children like it's the 20th century. Even though the world around us has transformed, the school curriculum has remained mostly unchanged stuck in an age that existed long before smartphones, social media, or AI. So here's the big question: Is your child learning the skills they actually need for tomorrow's world? Why Should Kids Learn AI in School? AI (Artificial Intelligence) education means teaching students how machines think, learn, and make decisions. It helps...
